It is nothing new, because all that one does is to completely remove all small rewards from your life for a day or even a weekend. However I like the attention this topic gets due to the fact that people start discussing why this became necessary. This article in the medicalxpress referers to a 2 year Duke Health trial that suggests that cutting the calories per day by "six Oreo cookies" is already enough to help reducing the risk for chronic inflammation, heart disease, cancer and cognitive decline. However the mechanism behind it is not yet understood.

Another article in a similar topic taks about a Study of The Ohio State University suggests that lowering the carbohydrates also allows to lower the risk of diabetes.

If you do something, find out what kind of motivation - intrinsic and extrinsic - you have.
Doing things with intrinsic motivation seems to be the happier way of life.
